New Life, New Walk

New Life, New Walk

In New Life, New Walk the author is looking at the transformation that occurs when a person comes to believe on The Lord Jesus Christ. As an astute Pastor, he observes that in the change that takes place——"We don't receive something new——we ourselves become new." The verses that reveal the radical nature and completeness of this change have great perpiscuity—Galatians 2:20a "I am crucified with Christ, nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me...." In Ephesians 4:24, believers are exhorted to put on the new man.

The Hidden Life Of Prayer

The Hidden Life Of Prayer

When God saves someone, when the light of 'The Gospel' breaks through in a person's soul, the desire to pray (to commune with the Living God) is awakened. M'Intyre gives us something of what has happened—"moved by a divinely implanted instinct, our natures cry out for God, for the Living God." When Saul was converted on the road to Damascus, those who initially had doubts about his conversion, their doubts were assuaged by this—'Behold he prayeth.' Mr.

"God's Way Of Peace" is Horatius Bonar's classic work on how sinful man can be reconciled to a Holy God. It is one of the clearest written presentations of The Gospel from the 19th century (or any other century).

Pierre Viret: The Angel of the Reformation

Pierre Viret: The Angel of the Reformation

I am so thankful to Ms. Sheats and Zurich Publishing for making this rich biography of Viret available to us! Pierre Viret——a forgotten giant of the Reformation——was unreservedly surrendered to Christ and more Christ-like than anyone of whom I have ever read. His unwavering commitment to biblical Truth combined with his sweet, humble, peace-loving spirit makes him a shining example of Ephesians 4:15 "speaking the truth in love." We wholeheartedly recommend this wonderful biography by Rachel Sheats.

A Breathing After God

In "A Breathing After God," the Puritan minister expounds Psalm 27:4 "One thing I have desired of the Lord. . . ." Do we only need one thing? Did David, at this point in his life, have only one need? We are created beings, and continually have many needs. What then is David's meaning? ". . . his meaning is, comparatively . . . ." It is a matter of priority ". . . seek ye first the Kingdom of God"——"There is a difference of degree of things . . . there are some that are greater goods, and some less." What is "The One Thing" that David saw as his greatest need?

I love the writings of The Puritans and have greatly benefited from them. I've been reading their books (and re-reading some of them) for over thirty years. Thomas Vincent's "The True Christians Love . . ." has long been one of my favorites, if not my favorite for many years.

Turn And Live

Turn And Live

"Turn and Live" is Nathaniel Vincent's work on conversion. To be converted to God there must be a turning from what God declares is wicked and a turning to "The Lord God." The apostle commends the brethren at Thessalonica for——". . . they turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God." 1 Thessalonians 1:9b. Pastor Vincent uses the well known text from Ezekiel as his spring board——"Turn ye, turn ye, from your evil ways; for why will you die, O house of Israel." The author wonders which is greater folly——Man's initial turning from God or his obstinance in refusing to return to God.

Precious Remedies Against Satan's Devices

Precious Remedies Against Satan's Devices

Our Lord calls "His People" to be holy because He is holy. The writings of the Puritan's reveal the intensity to which they pursued that end. An essential aspect of sanctification is to understand how "The Great Enemy Of Our Souls" labors endlessly to hinder our pursuit of holiness and to deceive (so as to destroy if he were able) the souls of as many as he can. He cannot destroy the souls of believers, but he disrupts their peace, joy . . , and overall well being as much as he can.
